Hair simulation, also known as scalp pigmentation or scalp micropigmentation, is a cosmetic beauty service in which colour pigment is applied to the scalp using a dedicated device with fine tips.
A rotary device working at a fixed depth places micro-pigments in the uppermost layer of the skin, creating the look of hair roots on the scalp. The aim is to reduce the colour contrast between hair and scalp so your hair looks fuller and denser.
Micropigmentation is an appearance-based technique that softens over time. Depending on your skin, the look lasts on average 3 to 4 years, after which the colour fades naturally.
Tattoo ink is not used. In tattooing, pigment sits deeper and colours can shift over time. Hair simulation uses dedicated pigments that fade naturally, helping to keep the look natural.
It can be applied in two ways: micropigmentation on a fully shaved head, or a shading technique for people with longer hair. The application is the same, but the desired look differs.
Your hair colour, hairstyle and expectations are discussed.
